The ONU is used to connect the end user to a PON network or its variant and is installed in the subscriber's premises — an office, apartment or apartment building.

What is GPON?
GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) is a gigabit passive optical network. It is the most advanced technology for connecting the Internet, digital television and IP telephony via a single cable. The main difference from other technologies for connecting communication services is the high data transfer rate. GPON bandwidth is up to 1 Gbit/s.
The GPON network is protected from interference. It is not affected by neighbors' Wi-Fi routers, radiotelephones, and other factors.
What is the difference between GPON and EPON?
EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) is a passive optical Ethernet network. The transfer rate of the "payload" in EPON technology is 1 Gbit/s. The technology is already outdated.

What is a DNS server?
A DNS server (pronounced "DNS") is a special server that contains information about IP addresses. The Domain Name System (DNS), which is used on the Internet, establishes a correspondence between the names of nodes and domains on the one hand and IP addresses on the other hand. DNS uses a hierarchical database of names distributed across multiple computers.

What is a Computer network?
There are a great many computer networks. Very different. Local, which connect at least two computers, and global, covering areas up to the size of the entire globe. They differ from each other not only in size, but also in the technology of data transmission, in other words, the language by which computers communicate with each other. This language is called protocol, just like that of diplomats.
The Internet also has its own set of protocols. We will not delve into such a special area. In a nutshell: the Internet transmits packets (datagrams) to the address indicated in them and does not guarantee their delivery. It is the latter condition, oddly enough, that has caused such rapid growth and such widespread distribution of this network. Indeed, the larger the network, the more likely it is that any of its parts will fail. And only this condition allows the worldwide network not only to survive in the event of such accidents, but also not to feel any noticeable malaise.
Why do we need all these networks? They are needed for data transmission. Which ones? But any kind. The mail transmits emails. The phone is sound. Fax image. Electronic computer networks transmit any of these types of information, as well as many others. Without getting up from your seat, you can send a letter that will arrive faster than a telegram, receive a reply, find out the latest news, visit the Louvre or even visit Antakida, talk to a friend sitting at a computer on the other side of the earth, as if he were in the next room, "download" the program you like, to book a plane ticket or a hotel room is not enough, and all this is available via the Internet. However, in order to experience all its advantages, you need, firstly, to have the appropriate software, and, secondly, to be able to work with it.

What is traffic?
Traffic is the amount of information coming to your computer from the network and sent from it to the network. Every time you browse the Internet, you receive a certain amount of information on your computer, measured in bytes.
The fact is that any Internet resource, be it www pages, music videos, www chats, IRC, news servers, etc., is traffic. You are viewing a www page, which means that some information has arrived on your computer from the network, and you are listening to music from the Internet, which means that information is being transmitted to your computer from the network.

What is Email?
This is one of the oldest services, which has hardly undergone any visible changes over the years of its existence. And what could be more conservative than mail?
Anyone who has an Internet mailing address, or, equivalently, their own mailbox, can send and receive mail on the Internet. Let's assume that you already have such an address. To read the letters coming to this address and send your letters, you need to use the mail program. For each operating system, there are not one, but dozens of different email clients. Not being able to describe them all, we will try to reflect the general logic as much as possible, and then elaborate on some of them. Any mail program should, in theory, show the contents of your mailbox, i.e. the list of emails that are there. Each row of the list contains at least the following information: the sender's address, the subject (or subject of the letter), and the time of departure. If you point to any line from the list (by clicking the mouse, using the arrows on the keyboard, or in any other way specified in the description of a specific program), you will receive the contents of the specified email.
Any email client should provide an opportunity to reply to the specified email (reply) or write a new email (new message). In the first case, the address is most often entered automatically. In the second one, you are asked to ask it. After that, you can write an email and send it using the appropriate command. In addition, the program should be able to remove emails from the mailbox, which is recommended to be done regularly, otherwise there is a risk of overflow.

What is an IP address?
Each computer on the network has its own unique address (number) - the so-called IP address - it is a number like aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd, (for example, 10.240.51.23), where the first and second digits (10.240.) are the same for all HOME networks, the third digit indicates the network segment, to which the computer is connected, the fourth digit is the computer number itself.
Each computer has two IP addresses: internal (local) and external (when connected to the Internet).
